Passing of Northern Life Member Norm Creed

posted in: Latest News

Last Thursday club president Vince Sinni received the very sad news that Northern Life Member – Norm Creed peacefully passed away.

Norm was a life member of Northern Cycling and was a professional cyclist recognised with a handicap race named in his honour in recognition of his cycling career.

He was in attendance at the 2020 Club Championships, where he proudly presented the podium with their medals and prizes.

Norm was a very good track rider who was called upon by Sid Patterson and his team to be Sid’s lead out man on the track, a very special honour to support one of Australia’s greatest cyclists.

He rode A grade with Northern & was racing up until an unfortunate accident where he was hit from behind while training and suffered a broken hip and pelvis which limited his cycling ability from then on.

Norm pictured below with  partner Meryl Jamieson whom assisted with many club tasks.  On race day she would often do corner marshalling, sell raffle tickets after the weekly race and organise the annual Christmas break-up

Details regarding his funeral will be circulated as they become available.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

** There will be a gathering to remember Norm at the Glenroy RSL this Thu 5th October at 11:30am

Vale Norm Creed.
