Despite an unfavourable forecast that tempted the Northern officials to proactively issue a cancel the evening prior we were able to complete the final race of the series on Northerns home circuit in cool but thankfully dry conditions.
Around 67 riders across grades A through E competed in race 3 and following a reasonably close first 2 races Northern came away with a convincing points win of 55 to 24 for race 3 and the overall series was taken by Northern 137 to 95.
In A grade Aaron Christiansen broke clear on around the last lap to finish well ahead of the rest of A grade with Northern sprinters Scott Gregory and Simon Bone taking out the minor places in the bunch sprint for a Northern clean sweep.
In B grade Colin Blackley (1st) and Stephen Saunders (2nd) made a break a few laps out and were never threatened from there with the bunch content not to chase and wait for the final sprint which was taken out comfortably by Luke Markof (3rd) ahead of Shane Templar (4th) & Craig Frost (5th).
C grade finished in a bunch sprint with Northerns Nick Nomikos outpacing fellow sprint specialist Melvin Elias for the first 2 places with Damien O’Hara from Eastern not far behind in 3rd place.
The feedback was that it was a fantastic series and well organised & supported so thanks to all those who fronted up to represent their respective clubs. Many thanks to all those who put in time organising behind the scenes doing the numbers plus the officials, volunteers, helpers, marshals, referees and first aiders that made for a successful 3 race series.
Congratulations to all the winners and place getters from Sundays race and also the series aggregate points winners. Unfortunately we didn’t have the means to tally up the points on the day so the aggregate medals will be distributed shortly.
