Northern retains slim lead after TdM race 3

posted in: Latest News

Northern retains a slim 41-point lead in the Tour de Metro series after race 3 in trying conditions at Eastern’s Gruyere course on Saturday afternoon.

There was a good turnout of 77 riders with Northern’s numbers slightly down. The honours went to Eastern 56 pts beating Northern 41pts, team aggregate points now stand at Northern 175 pts to Eastern 134 pts.

Conditions were cold and the roads were wet. Highlights for Northern were wins for Mark Seddon in A grade; Trevor Coulter in B; Nick Nomikos fresh from a riding holiday in the Italian alps in C grade; 5th place to President Vince in D (Vince and Tony Gherxi the only Northern riders in D); 5th to Allison Watt in E (although there was a lot of confusion in this grade as half the field completed seven laps instead of six) and a win for Meredith Kelly the solo rider in F grade.
The individual award sees Frances Medina on 16 pts for the women’s aggregate and she can not be beaten with Meredith Kelly second on 7 pts. Leading the individual award for the men is Trevor Coulter on 16 pts and there are still 17 riders who are still in contention to take out this award.

Thank you to Eastern Cycling Club for hosting a great event and to all their volunteers and supporters. The hot soup around the fire and a coffee van were terrific after a hard race.

Race four in the series is now scheduled for Saturday 31 August at 2pm at Eastern’s course at Yarra Glen. Course map here.
