The grey skies and light drizzle leaving Melbourne gave way to clear crisp sunny conditions perfect for racing for the 35 entries in the first running of this handicap honouring a great Northern club man Ian Bishop.
The limit group got underway at 10am with scratch departing 30 mins later with a total of 9 bunches and set about sweeping up the in riders in between. A large bunch had formed by the 35km mark that included all groups up to the 9min bunch and continued to sweep up the earlier riders in front of them and then proceeded to fracture the bunch on the turn around climb with members of scratch and chopping block distancing the rest.
A great effort from Kaz McMurray and Kon Kakris from the 12 min group as they almost managed to stay ahead of the pairing of Aaron Christiansen (scratch) and Mark Edele (2 min) who had broken away before being overtaken in the last 500 metres.
Overall a great day of competitive, incident free racing with a solid turnout considering the increased fuel costs of getting to the circuit so thanks to all those who turned up to support this race.

There’s a break for Easter next Sunday and then we have another away race at East Trentham (Life Members hcp) as a good lead up to the Benghazi on Anzac Day.
