It was another fantastic day at National Boulevard where 47 riders made the most of what could be the last of the good weather.
The temperature was warming up but the racing was already hot with Ag G going hard from the gun in B grade and a few riders getting dropped early on due to the windy conditions which saw a strong headwind up the back straight.
The windy conditions saw a lot of bunches sticking together although first time visitor from Eastern Tom Wiliams went solo in A grade for a good quarter of the race, only to miss the winning move, after being caught, from Matt Carmichael as he quietly slipped off the front. Multiple bridging attempts from were all shut down with no coordinated chase leaving Matt to ride his way into another first place, with Tom taking 2nd after a dominating show of power in the sprint.
B grade saw a sneaky attack from Michael Kanizay to take a long sought after podium position, holding off 2 strong sprinters by less than 1 second.
C and D grades saw a reduced bunch sprint with only half the bunch in contention but they were fighting hard for fewer podium spots than there were remaining riders.
E and F grades saw significant separation in the bunches by the final lap.
Overall it was a fabulous day that could only have been better if the wind was a little less, or if the author of this post managed to get a podium spot.
Final podium standings:
3 – Faud Nasir

3 – John McKinnon
