It was a cold and grey (but mostly dry) morning that greeted 37 die-hard competitors this morning at National Boulevard, some traveling for more than an hour to to join in what is still some of the best crit racing in Melbourne.
With a light mist dancing in the air just before the start, there were many checking the BOM forecast with everyone hoping the rain would hold off until after the race was done.
With a truck parked right at the start / finish line, it was a back straight finish today and riders were safely guided around the truck, through the corners by our marshals, with our referees, time keepers, and other helpers all trying to stay warm standing still in the cold brisk air that reminds us winter has us firmly in it’s grasp.
All grades finished in a bunch with only seconds separating riders. B grade saw the most breakaway action with Colin going early, only to be caught but then Meagan making a late move and gaining a significant gap over the field. Glen chased and caught Megan and the two joined forces to hold off the fast finishing bunch by a matter of just 2 seconds.
Congratulations to Meagan and Stephanie who both made the podium in their respective grades, showing 100% representation of our female riders on the podium today.
Placings by grade were:

1st – David Maladay. 2nd – David Rooke. 3rd – Stephanie Young

1st – David Drew. 2nd – Keith Wade. 3rd – Shane Dwyer
