Another chilly but sunny morning greeted todays riders at National Boulevard that competed across grades A through E featuring a back straight finish into a stiff Northerly that kept the average race speeds in check today.
In A grade Matt Carmichael broke free to take the win comfortably ahead of last weeks winner Peter Chester and Scott Gregory coming through in a tight sprint.
In a surgy B grade race there were multiple break away attempts throughout the race until Garry Clively broke clear on the final lap and was chased down by John Hiatt who took the win ahead of Garry C with Luke Markof emerging from the rest of B grade to take the bunch sprint. Given it was typically these 3 on the front during the race along wth Shayne Kirby (4th) it was fitting they ultimately filled the podium positions at the end. John Hiatt will be rewarded with his second straight win in B grade after the club champs with a promotion to A grade.
C grade saw some early strong turns on the front from a few riders including John McKinnon, John Mitsinikos who did the majority of work on the front in the early stages. At around the 20 min mark John McKinnon attacked on the top straight with Dennis Hosking on his wheel. Rae Lesniowska swiftly chased them down and urged the break to roll turns to remain away from the rest of the bunch. Dennis H dropped out of the break after a few laps and John ands Rae continued to extend the gap to the main bunch. With John in full TT mode pulling most of the turns into the wind and Rae capitalising on the tailwind on the main straight the 2 maintained their lead until the finish where Rae took the honours from John with Dennis taking 3rd in the final sprint from the bunch (Big thanks to Rae for the write up).
