Fundraiser for Phil

posted in: Latest News

Some of you may already be aware that former Club Champ Phil Bramich came off his bike in a serious accident while out on a social ride with friends last Thursday 27 December.

Phil hit a small metal bolt on the road which sent him over the handlebars. He was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with injuries including a broken neck at C2, head lacerations and small hand fractures.

Phil underwent surgery for the neck injury on Friday and he is recovering well with a halo-type head brace that he will have to wear for the next three months. His ongoing recovery and rehabilitation is expected to take many more months.

While Phil looks the worse for wear, he is apparently his normal upbeat self and receiving visitors in hospital including President Vince and his GOS team mates.

Phil will be off the bike and not able to work for some time and to help him and his family out at this time, the Club has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise some funds to help them through this difficult time. Northern Cycling has kicked it off with a $500 donation. We have plans for a fundraising race early in the new year as well.

Phil has been a terrific member and supporter of Northern for many years – you literally could not meet a nicer bloke – and the love and thoughts of all Club members, supporters and friends go out to him, his wife Cara and their family at this time.

If you are able to make a contribution to the fundraising effort, that would be gratefully appreciated. If not, that’s OK too – you might be able to help out in some other way.
