After a number of cancellations to this race due to adverse weather – Chooka’s Wheelrace was finally held under grey skies with around 32 riders starting out from the Glenaroua CFA at Broadford.
This year the winner emerged from a female stacked 23 min bunch with Kaz McMurray eventually breaking free of all her fellow 23 min riders and soloing to a comfortable victory ahead of John McKinnon from the 17 min group who dropped his bunch near the start of the 4th lap in TT mode and set about reeling in all riders except the eventual winner to take 2nd place ahead of Raelene Lesniowska in 3rd, a handful of seconds further back.
After a min or so the majority of the 4:30 bunch plus Luke Poyser (11 min) came streaming through in numbers to take the rest of the top 10 places with Michael Kanizay timing his run perfectly to hold off the rest of the bunch to take 4th.
From the scratch bunch Stephen Kilpatrick took out the win from his bunch and also the fastest time.
Thanks to all todays volunteers that travelled a considerable distance to pick up a medic /lead car/ corner marshal role ie Mark Edele, Greg Foster, Michael Heath, Collin Morris, Ross Clarke and Trevor Rim.
Also special thanks to the club regulars such as Albert(commissaire), Bruce(timing/handicapping), Faye(rego/starter), Dave H(van/setup) without whom these events couldn’t take place. Last but not least David ‘Chooka’ Cecchini (Flag) who wasn’t feeling the best today and initiated plus sponsors this special race on Northerns calendar.
