Important race circuit changes

posted in: Latest News, Uncategorized

Scheduled roadworks in Lancefield over March and April and the cancellation of the Veterans Cycling Victoria Warrnambool Open have forced us to make some changes to our 2020 race program.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council has advised that part of Three Chain Road, Lancefield, will be under repair (a section between Lancefield and Newham – before Dons Rd) over eight weeks during March and April. This has left us with no alternative but to change our race circuits for our Club Open & Age Championships on Sunday 5 April and the Veterans Cycling Victoria 41st Benghazi Open on Saturday 25 April hosted by Northern. Both these races will now be held on our Kyneton circuit.

The Kyneton circuit is the best alternative to Lancefield for these two major events in our 2020 program. Members will be able to get some early preparation at the Kyneton circuit as we have an intra-club race scheduled with our friends from Central Victorian Veteran Cycling Club  on Sunday 15 March for the Jim Pritchard Memorial Handicap.

A club road race (Handicap) will now be held on 17 May at Glenaroua in lieu of the Veterans Cycling Victoria Warrnambool Open being cancelled.
This race will be two laps of the big loop at Glenaroua 65km and is the only race we will have at that venue, in the first half of the year.  Chooka’s Wheelrace on 13 September will be 5 laps around the smaller Schoolhouse Hill loop.       This new event at Glenaroua will give our members the opportunity for a challenging handicap race and/or preparation for the VCV Open at Colac on 31 May.

For our Club Open & Age Champs, registration will be at the Kyneton Bowls Club in Mollison Street. We are in discussions with Council about our options for a registration/presentation venue for the Benghazi and will keep you posted. .
