Success for Northern at State Crit Champs

Northern riders featured on the podium in every grade except D grade men at today’s VVCC State Criterium Championships in perfect conditions at National Boulevard.

Among the inspirational races of the day, former Club Champ Phil Bramich who came third in A grade after originally being placed in B. A grade started with a break-away with Kos Samaras and Emilio Romano eventually both wheeled back by the bunch just before the intermediate sprint, which was won by Emilio.

As the race went on three riders got away never to be caught – the eventual winner Richard Abel from Eastern, Northern’s Tony Giuliano and Phil who stayed with them to the sprint to finish third – a great effort from probably the oldest rider in that field.

One of our more senior members Ian Bishop came second in E grade.

Some great racing too from seven Northern women including Meredith Kelly winning in F Grade, new member Margaret Noonan in E, Tamara Riddell in D and another new member Raelene Lesniowska in C.

Thanks to all officials and marshals who made it a terrific day of racing for the 107 participants.
