In a week where we celebrate the Club’s 40th anniversary, we profile one of our life members and elder statesman at Northern – Ollie Kelly.

Name: Oliver ‘Ollie’ Kelly

Family: Wife Margaret and son- Brian

Lives: Tullamarine

Occupation: Retired 1998. Manufacturing and Engineering Services Manager

Favourite race circuits: Avenel Road, East Trentham, Lancefield and National Boulevard

Favourite bike: Merida Scultura 907 Carbon

Favourite training ride: Tullamarine- Maribyrnong River- Williamstown-Altona and back.

Kms per week: Winter: 100-250km Summer: 150-300km

Most admired Northern Member: Colin Morris

Most memorable cycling moment: Winning both the club scratch and handicap aggregates in 2009

What you like most about Northern: Northern has always had the best variety of races and courses of any club. In the early years of the VVCC, Northern was the largest club including many country members some of whom still help out at our races and camaraderie between members is great.

Most admired international cyclist past or present: Eddie Merckx, Sean Kelly and Cadel Evans.

Favourite actor: Marlon Brando

Favourite movie: The Godfather

Favourite song: Nessun Dorma

Favourite band: The Fureys and the Bee Gees

Favourite meal: Pink ling and veggies

AFL Team: Essendon Bombers

Favourite dessert: Apple strudel and ice cream

Hobbies: Gardening and handyman jobs plus the odd game of golf.
