Big Sunday of racing this weekend …

posted in: Latest News

Northern members are heading to the country for a big day of racing this Sunday 22 September – the Conni Classic Series Women’s 52 km Handicap hosted by Central Veterans at Emu Creek, near Bendigo, and the intraclub handicap event with Eureka at a new course outside Ballarat.

There was a great turnout of Northern women riders for race one of the Connic Classic series at Learmonth back in May, and since then our women membership has continued to grow. It will be fantastic to see another good attendance by Northern for this event, supporting more females on bikes. Note: Entries are still being taken on Register Now through the VCV website and entries will be closing on Tuesday 17 September at 11:59pm.

Eureka Cycling Club is hosting our first intra club event and President Dean Wells has come up with a new circuit just for this race:

“This is a brand new conglomeration circuit especially for this race.  I have christened it ‘Twin Mounts’ because we visit the lower slopes of Mount Beckworth and Mount Bolton.  There is one long climb to the turnaround at Mount Beckworth.  It is not very steep. There is a nasty sting in the tail of the race called ‘The Wall’.  Steep and short.  We finish a few hundred metres over the top; on a downhill. It is only a short race, but it should be exciting.”

See the map here.

Northern riders can still enter via EntryBoss but no online payment is required. Eureka has requested the payment of the $15 entry fee on race day at registration. When entries close on EntryBoss Thursday 19 September at 11:59pm entries will then be sent to Eureka handicapper Peter Livitsanis.

Register before 9:30am at the Eureka Cycling club rooms, corner of Foreshore Rd and Outlet Rd, Learmonth. The race start location is just 1.2 kilometres from the club rooms, racing will start at 10am.

Please note: The Kyneton race scheduled for Sunday 3 November has been cancelled. Terry Hodges recently submitted permit requests and has been notified by Macedon Ranges Shire Council that Pipers Creek Road will have major roadworks from late September to late November. As a consequence, the Kyneton circuit cannot be used. We also will be looking into organising a social ride on this day; ideas will be welcome from our members on locations where we can ride around for this social ride. Feel free to send Tony an email or drop us a line on Facebook.

Good luck this Sunday everyone – enjoy your racing!
